The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections entered fifth phase on Sunday as voters to decide fate of 693 candidates across 61 constituencies.

As many as 61 assembly constituencies, spread across 12 districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh, held polling for the fifth round of state elections on Sunday. The key constituencies in this phase included Ayodhya and Prayagraj. Once considered Congress bastions, Amethi and Raebareli too voted on Sunday.
Other districts where polling was held in the fifth phase were Sultanpur, Chitrakoot, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Barabanki, Bahraich, Shravasti and Gonda.
According to the Election Commission data, 2,24,77,494 voters sealed the fate of 693 candidates. The voting commenced at 7am and continued till 6 pm.
Among the prominent faces were deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who contested from the Sirathu assembly seat in Kaushambi district. He was in direct fight with Apna Dal (Kamerawadi) candidate Pallavi Patel.

Until 9am, Amethi recorded 8.67 per cent voting. While Ayodhya had 9.44 per cent, Bahraich had 7.45 per cent, Barabanki 6.21 per cent, Chitrakoot 8.80 per cent, Gonda 8.31 per cent, Kaushambi 11.40 per cent, Pratapgarh 6.95 per cent, Prayagraj 6.95 per cent, Raebareli 7.48 per cent, Shrawasti 9.67 per cent and Sultanpur 8.60 per cent, according to the data by Election Commission.
